his loving womb
the basement,
temperature
controlled
humidity
just right
lights timed

but labor
never comes
they will never

of thieves
and birds
and bugs
and wind
and rain
and dappled
light
through
tree leaves,
and they know

no compliments
no questions.

this reasoned out

observations
only

method,
he can’t even see
his plants
without lifting
a plastic curtain,
the living
is the hiding
things,
the heart
is the living hiding thing
it’s tucked away
so safe
so perfectly
tended
to the T,
a very
certain
